Registration
Registration will take place in Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia from 8.00am until 9.15am on Monday 23 January. The Street Café at the National Gallery will be open from 8.00am for those wanting to register bright and early. The café sells hot drinks and a range of muffins and pastries.
Reception and dinner
A welcome reception will be held at the National Portrait Gallery at 5.30pm on Monday 23 January. The cost for this event is included in your conference price. The conference dinner will take place in Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia at 7.30pm on Tuesday 24 January. If you would like to attend the dinner please pay for this when you register for the conference.
Visits to cultural institutions
On the final afternoon participants will have the option to visit cultural institutions within Canberra, including exploring the exhibitions and permanent collections at both the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery. Delegates can book into these tours at registration on the first day of the conference. Transport provided.
Workshops
Simple screen printing with hand cut stencils
Enjoy the fast and fabulous medium of screenprinting. Participants will design and cut stencils, be guided through printing their stencil onto t-shirts/fabric using coloured inks and dry and heat set their t-shirt ready to wear! Participants need to bring a light coloured cotton t-shirts or fabric (e.g. tea towel). At Megalo Print Studio.
Relief Printing without a Press
Discover how you can produce prints at home without the use of a press in this introduction to relief printing. Participants will be guided through cutting a lino, inking up, and printing to produce a finished work. At Megalo Print Studio + Gallery.
Behind-the-Scenes Tour and Fuse-a-Tile Experience
Get the full Glassworks experience. Explore the history of the oldest public building in Canberra. Discover how this became Australia’s only cultural facility wholly dedicated to contemporary glass art. After learning about glassmaking techniques you can make your very own postcard sized tile to have a memento of your trip to the Canberra Glassworks. At Canberra Glassworks.
Art Forensic: 3D Facial Reconstruction
Dr Susan Hayes, Research Associate (Functional Anatomy and Human Morphology), The University of Western Australia. Work in pairs on a replica skull building up muscles and skin in clay. The lab is an intensive, hands-on introduction to the human skull, the function and shapes of the anatomy of the face, and how to sculpt the features. The workshop fee includes all materials and afternoon tea. At the National Portrait Gallery.
